Date: 2026-10-15
On October 14th, the comprehensive sports center of Shanghai International Tourism Resort officially started construction. The project is located on the south side of Pudong Disney Wishing Star Park, adjacent to Bicester Shopping Village, with a planned total construction area of approximately 88000 square meters. It is scheduled to be completed and put into use in October 2027, filling the gap of professional sports venues in the resort area.
According to the project plan, the comprehensive sports center is equipped with ice rinks, tennis courts, comprehensive sports halls, and wooden camping areas, which can undertake various sports such as ice hockey, tennis, badminton, basketball, and badminton. The standardized configuration of ice rinks and tennis courts enables the resort to add professional sports spaces in addition to existing amusement parks and commercial formats, supporting diverse scenarios such as event hosting, youth sports training, and daily fitness.
In the overall map of the resort, the sports center is not an isolated project. It is interconnected with the existing sports facilities such as rowing, cycling, and rock climbing in the area, forming a sports experience combination covering water, land, and ice. The industry believes that the combination of amusement parks, businesses, and sports can help prolong tourists' stay time, increase overnight rates and secondary consumption, which is in line with the direction of international tourism resorts transitioning from single day tours to multi day vacations.
At the operational level, the resort plans to package park play, shopping, sports, and accommodation into a 2-3 day vacation package, and introduce professional events, youth sports training, and corporate team building activities. This combination aims to transform sports scenes into vacation products, making the sports center another drainage entrance outside of the theme park.
With the construction of the comprehensive sports center, the supporting scope of Shanghai International Tourism Resort has extended from amusement parks and commercial areas to cultural and sports fields. Against the backdrop of cultural and tourism consumption upgrading from sightseeing to experience, and from single amusement to compound vacation, the addition of professional sports venues not only enriches the supply of destination products, but also provides a new pivot for optimizing regional passenger flow structure.
